Summer arctic sea-ice gone by 2040?

There's an intersting take on this at New Scientist - "New research has brought forward the earliest date by which the Arctic ice cap might completely disappear in summer to 2040. That's pretty soon. Looking back at the many stories we've written over the last few years, the date was 2100 back in 2002, but had moved up to 2070 by 2004."

Looks like, at the rate at which the forecast is being revised, in 2008 the forecast will be for an Arctic free of summer ice by 2010...
