Global Spanking on the cards.
What a strange irony that President Bush's recent election victory seems to be attributed to the religious right.
Those God fearing folks whose desire it is to see God's heaven on Earth have elected a man whose mandate seems to be to dismantle God's creation by tearing up environmental regulations and encouraging an economy whose emissions seem destined to render the world uninhabitable by us and the rest of God's creatures.
I wonder how many people have thought about what it might mean to have God's Kingdom on Earth?
I imagine the idea is of a benevolent father embracing his children; but what naughty little children we've been!
Perhaps the arrival of the Kingdom of God will be more like the arrival of a police car at the scene of a crime..
How about this analogy?
God says, "Dear little children, I'm going next door for a while, please behave yourselves, love eachother and work hard. With some practice, you will surely learn to reach the doorknob and then you will be able to join me next door. Don't make me have to come in and spank you again like I did last time!"
So here's God with his ear cocked at the door listening to us fuss and fight. It's been 2000 years since he sent his son in to try and help us reach that door knob. I wonder what his reaction will be when he hears the world slip through our fingers and smash onto the floor?
