Energy future history log.

02 janviery 2076

Having camped out overnight, and finding nothing to eat in my backpack this morning, I was ravenous, so started out back home at a cracking pace, very early in the day. I wondered to myself that borrowing a community car would have been faster, but also twenty times more expensive on the Carbon Credits. Also, since cars are becoming so difficult to renew or repair, it would be wasteful to use a car for a non-essential journey. Even only ten years ago, there were still car manufactories, able to buy enough power and resources through the Government business aid schemes to make basic electric models. Now the only powered industrial machines are used to make Renewable Energy equipment, agricultural tools and bicycles. It is just not permitted to use energy to make larger transport vehicles. It’s too much of a waste, both of materials and energy. Even though plastics are now all made from vegetable oils and other plant products. Even though all the metal and glass we use is recycled. Even though all the electronics and cabling are scavenged. People actually prefer to raise a work bullock or a horse to pull them around in a cart than waste Carbon Credits on secondhand cars - which eat fuel and waste time, materials and energy in repair. Whereas 30 years ago people the world over wanted automobiles, now people aspire to owning a light alloy bicycle with a flexi trailer. And get hungry doing all their life business by bike…When I got back to my home place in the main zone, I went to the cantina and snaffled a whole plate of split yellow peas, cracked wheat with winsolstice greens. My neighbour asked me if I had been out building something to get so famished. I shook my head but explained nothing more. I needed to reflect further.
