Dear Mr. Baird, Shame on you. If you think that 250,000 unemployed and a 60% rise in the price of gas constitutes an 'apocalypse' then heaven help you. It is testament to the lack of charity in your policies that electors feel more threatened by the prospect of losing their jobs than by the end of the world. If you would like a foretaste of things to come, have a look at the situation in Australia. The worst drought in 100 years. The Murray River reduced to a trickle. 1 per cent (CAD $800 billion) wiped from the economy. Without heavy rains in the forthcoming weeks there may not even be a rice crop this year. Commodity price have already risen in expectation. What will you do when that comes to Canada? I daresay just the rise in the cost of food will do more to harm the economy than Kyoto ever could. It sounds like the one percent of our GDP that Nicholas Stern suggested would stop global warming has already been used up. To claim that Kyoto would result in economic hardship for Canadians is at best disingenuous and in the light of the alternative, doing nothing, it is a damn lie. The economy is designed to make money. It needs merely to be pointed in the the right direction ...and that's your job. Yours faithfully,
